Every year for the last thirty years, the Geordie School Tour has traveled over 30,000 kms by van, plane, fishing boat and water taxi to perform between 200 to 250 performances across Quebec, Ontario and the Maritime provinces.  The tradition continues this season with one story that is simple but incredibly powerful, told as two separate plays for elementary and high school/CEGEP audiences.

The Story of Sadako

  • Touring Elementary Schools, Community Presenters (Family audience)

An 11-year-old girl loves to challenge herself.  She loves to run and dreams of being the fastest runner in her school.  Now she’s racing against time, trying to out-run a past she can barely remember.

Sadako Sasaki died in October 1955 of leukemia, more than ten years after the first atomic bomb destroyed Hiroshima. Her fight to live started a worldwide movement for peace and her story continues to be an inspiration to this day.

The Weapons of Peace

  • Touring to Highschools, CEGEPs, Community Presenters (General Public audience)

On August 6, 1945, an American bomber drops the first atomic bomb as a weapon of war on Hiroshima. On October 1955, as a result of nuclear radiation, a young Japanese girl by the name of Sadako Sasaki dies of leukemia.
