Benjamin Gerlis

Benjamin graduated from Wimbledon School of Art (London, UK), in 2007 with a BA in Set Design for Stage and Screen. He was quickly hired in the position of Design Associate at the National Theatre in London, working with some of the world’s leading designers and directors. Since leaving the National he has been a freelance designer and associate on both theatre and opera projects, in the UK, Canada, and abroad.

He has worked as the assistant to Richard Hudson (The Lion King – Musical) on Armida at the Metropolitan Opera, and The Nutcracker for the American Ballet Theatre. His own designs for theatre include In Transit (Segal Centre and tour, Montreal) Me and My Girl (Palladium, London, UK), Knives In Hens (Battersea Arts Centre, London UK), Guys and Dolls (Questors Theatre, London, UK), FAME The Musical (Questors Theatre, London, UK), and Playlist (Arcola Theatre, London, UK).

Benjamin has also designed two stop-motion animation films, CRONE and SPECTACULAR VIEW, both directed by Mikey Please, which were shortlisted for awards at numerous international film festivals, including Barbican Animate the World, the Chicago Short Film Festival, and the Sitges International Film Festival.
