Instant - Geordie Theatre

Written by Erin Shields
Directed by Dean Patrick Fleming
Script developed with Playwrights' Workshop Montréal

Meredith wants to be a pop star. Jay wants to be a hockey star. Rosie just wants to help her father. Searching for fame in a world of instant communication drives all of them to make split-second choices that have lasting ramifications. Instant is a lightning-speed, multi-narrative story about three teenagers who are trying to be heard.

Each performance comes with an optional 10 - 15 minute post-show talk back session led by the actors.

Finally, we have a teachers’ study guide available for presenters to use as-is or to adapt for their specific market

The play was excellent! The topic was very pertinent and it was presented clearly and with humour. The actors were able to portray characters that our students could relate to. This was the best play that I have seen by Geordie because it was something that many teens go through.

Excellent. The boys were enthralled throughout the whole show (which is saying something considering they are Sec 1 and 2 boys...)

Instant was very well done from the character portrayals to the use of a minimalist but very effective set.

It was my favourite play by Geordie, bar none. All my students loved the characters and story.

Both the students and the staff loved the play. It was very fast paced and greatly entertaining. Students were able to connect with it at so many levels, which is why it had an impact on most of them.

It was a very appropriate play for the present trend/fad of young people, even young adults. Definitely, something our students could relate to - the power of the social media network. I glimpsed facial expressions of recognition in the student audience.

We LOVED it. All the students and teachers who saw the performance thought it was interesting, current, and relatable.
