Ways to Volunteer

Opening Night Volunteer
Decorating the lobby on Opening Night by blowing up balloons, putting up posters and creating a festive atmosphere.
Time commitment: Friday (Opening Night) from 3:30 – 6:00 pm
Front of House Volunteer
A. School Matinee Volunteer – Meet the teachers from the school buses and direct them to the welcome desk. Provide information about the location of washrooms, water-fountains etc...
Time commitment: Weekday mornings. 1 shift = approximately 3 hours

B. Family Matinee Volunteer – Welcome our family patrons and direct them to the Box Office; fold, stuff and distribute programmes; field questions about the show or about Geordie; promote Geordie’s merchandise and help tidy up after the show.
Time commitment: Evenings and weekends. 1 shift = approximately 3 hours
School Liaison Assistant
Assisting the school liaison by calling schools to remind them of our upcoming shows, conducting surveys of teachers’ opinions and promoting the Geordie tour.
Time commitment: 2-5 hours per month
Fundraising Assistant
As a non-profit organization, fundraising is an integral part of what we do. Helping us out with our annual fundraising campaign, sourcing potential funding, monitoring grant announcements and soliciting donations by phone and e-mail.
Time commitment: 2-5 hours per month
Administrative Assistant
Assisting our office staff with various administrative tasks (mailings, faxing, telephone calls, compiling information, etc.) during peak production times.
Time commitment: as needed during regular business hours (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm)
Publicity Team
Distributing our posters and flyers to specific neighbourhoods, with a map and detailed notes for each location..
Time commitment: as needed (before a show)
Volunteer Coordinator
Helping recruit and train volunteers, keeping volunteer manuals up-to-date, reviewing applications and placing volunteers as needed.
Time commitment: 5-6 hours per month
Translator
Translating promotional materials, web content, fundraising pamphlets and/or letters for distribution from English to French.
Time commitment: as needed
Production Volunteer
Working closely with the Production Manager to help bring missing pieces together in the run up to the show.
*Experience working backstage is an asset.

Examples:

Light Walker : Assisting the lighting designers and technicians to establish lighting levels during tech week by walking around on the set and standing where they need to see someone.

Props and Costume Assistant : Helping the designers and production manager hunt down hard-to-find prop and costume pieces.
