GTS Coordinator

Geordie Theatre is seeking a GTS Coordinator to join our Geordie Theatre School team. Reporting to Geordie’s Executive Director and working closely with the GTS Creative Director, the GTS Coordinator supports the coordination and running of all elements of Geordie Theatre School, with the goals to increase the reach, impact, and creativity of GTS through brainstorming, research, and outreach.

Geordie Theatre School Teachers and Interns

Geordie Theatre School is happy to accept applications for teaching artists and interns for GTS classes and workshops at any time.

What are we looking for in our teaching artists? Our teachers are passionate theatre artists who work in a variety of disciplines and are at different stages in their careers, but are united in their love of working with youth. All levels of teaching experience are welcome to apply.

What are we looking for in our interns? Our interns are passionate theatre artists, or theatre students, who are interested in learning more about teaching theatre to youth. Some of them have no teaching experience and are curious to see if they’ll like it, while others have previous teaching experience but don’t know how that translates to working with youth. All levels of teaching experience are welcome to apply.

PLEASE NOTE: We tend to bring on new teachers and interns in the weeks leading up to fall, winter and summer activities. With this in mind, we like to hold information sessions for new teachers and interns in January (pre-winter session) and August (pre-fall session). Due to a high number of applications, you may not hear from us until those times.

If we have a particular need at another point in the year, we may reach out to you directly.

About Geordie: We are an award-winning professional theatre company that has presented live English-language productions for young audiences in Quebec and abroad since 1980.  Currently led by Cree artist Jimmy Blais, Artistic Director, we are one of the first non-culturally specific theatre companies in Canada with Indigenous leadership. Our current goal is to grow our Indigenous programming and Indigenous relationships within our province and beyond. We offer a variety of cultural activities for youth and the adults in their lives, including performances, acting classes and workshops.

Currently, we reach 34,000 young people and their communities annually through the following activities:

  • 2Play Tour, travelling plays that visit hundreds of elementary and high schools across Eastern Canada.
  • Mainstage series, which presents shows in local Montreal theatres for the public and schools.
  • Geordie Theatre School, which offers acting classes and workshops for children, teens, and corporate team members.

We focus on providing educational components in all our programming, about topics that are relevant and important to young people. Study guides are provided to teachers, promoting discussion and activities related to the play’s themes, as well as resources for students who may be going through the same issues as characters in the play. Artists and invited guest speakers provide question and answer periods after each of our performances, promoting engagement and further exploration of the play’s themes.
