Nohkom's Knick-Knacks

Written & directed by Barry Bilinsky
Recommended for ages 6-12 (Elementary)

This show is part of Geordie’s 2Play Tour, and will also be presented at  the Playground Festival in January 2027.

When Abby helps sort through the last boxes of her late Nohkom’s belongings before her family moves, a crusty stuffed lemur named Mugz wakes up and insists that every object has a story. As ordinary household things unlock memories of her Nohkom, Abby is drawn into a funny, heartfelt journey through grief, love, and Cree family memory.

Full of imagination, humour, and warmth, Nohkom’s Knick-Knacks is a moving celebration of what we inherit, what we hold onto, and how the people we miss continue to shape us.

Masha Bashmakova

Assistant Director

Bio & Work

Masha (she/they) is a queer and neurodivergent actor, director and theatre creator with a background in physical theatre and a love for new work development. They thrive in chaos, curiosity, and movement. Amongst trees, playfulness, and loved ones. Between two main activities: wondering and wandering. Born in Russia, raised in the United Arab Emirates, and primarily based between Tiohtià:ke (Montréal) and T’Karonto (Toronto), they are deeply moved by the million ways in which language, place, and worldview impact how we tell stories. A graduate of Concordia’s Performance Creation program, Masha has spent the last few years working as an actor in film and theatre, building her practice as a director, developing experimental creation projects, and continuing her training abroad with ArtHaus Berlin and the Grotowski Institute in Poland. Her work in Geordie and Imago’s co-production of The Wolves in Montreal scored her a nomination for Outstanding Emerging Artist and won Outstanding Ensemble. An alum of the 2023-2024 2Play Tour, Masha is thrilled to be returning to work with Georide Theatre and the tour in a new role and bring two incredible new plays to students across Eastern Canada.

Select recent credits include: The Wolves (Geordie Theatre and Imago Theatre), Cornflake (Dense and Stage), Instant (Geordie Theatre), Perfect Storm (Geordie Theatre), Dances of Likeness (Studio Matejka), Transplant  (CTV / NBC), Windy (Young Hearts Theatre), and Les Temps (François Delisle).

Diana Uribe

Set & Costume Designer

Bio & Work

Diana is a Colombian theatre designer, plastic artist, interior designer and an eternal child. She has worked for over 30 years in design and the arts. In 2005, Diana moved to Canada and found a second home; she graduated in 2011 from the Theatre Design program at The National Theater School of Canada. Diana is interested in the way that theatre reaches people, in the world of possibilities, dreams and change that are inherent to theatre practice. Her passion for space and its relationship to humans, and how this affects the body and mind, have inspired her work, creating spaces and costumes that evoke a metaphor of our environment. As an artist and a human, she is aware of the imprint that we leave and the importance to engage in the exploration of ecological materials and renewed theatrical practices.
